General Information: Day Boys
Mr Williams is in charge of Day Boys.
If parents are unsure of what is happening at School please feel free to look at the notice boards in the main school corridor. All information is to be found here regarding internal organisation. If you have any queries do not hesitate to contact the Staff at School.
Weekdays
8.15 am: All day boys are expected at School by this time.
5.30 pm: Day boys may leave school. (5.00 pm during the Winter Terms.)
Some school events may require boys to stay later. The boys will be informed of these, eg. Music Concert the boys stay for tea and attend the Concert.
If a day boy is on a birthday table he will be ready to go home at 6.30 pm.
Weekend Leave (day finishes at 3.30 pm) and holiday times are given in the Calendar.
Saturday
Day boys are expected by 8.15 am, unless they are leaving school earlier for sport, in which case they should arrive 15 minutes prior to the departure time.
Day boys leave after sport if not required for school events. They may depart after sport straight from where they played if prior arrangements have been made.
Year 5 (Standard Three) day boys are not required to be at school unless they are selected for a school team.
Boys arrive in Greys and get changed into sports uniform. They may change into mufti after sport.
Clothing
Clothing requirements are shown in the clothing list and it is important that all items are clearly named. Day boys must wear red jerseys to and from school. In summer, day boys may come to school in their sandals. In winter they should wear their black lace-up shoes. All boys are expected to keep their shoes clean.
Best uniform is worn on formal occasions such as Sunday Chapel, away prep school fixtures, major school trips and so on.
Sports Gear
Please note that day boys require all the gear that is on the list. It should be properly named. The laundering of winter sports gear (not track suits) is carried out by the school. In the Summer terms, day boys must wear their whites to school. (Cricketers must wear long white socks)
First/Fourth Terms Only athletic/swimming gear, hats and two pairs of short
white socks required.
Second/Third Terms All winter sports gear, athletic singlet, drink bottle required.
Mufti
Boys are normally allowed to change into mufti after sport on Saturdays. Therefore we encourage the day boys to bring some mufti so that they can play freely with the other boys in the orchard or on the fields.
Lost Property
To be collected from outside the dining room after breakfast. If parents are concerned about a lost article, please contact Mr Calkin.
Leaving School
All boys must be passed by Duty Master at 5.30 pm in the Summer Terms and
5.00 pm in the Winter Terms. Pick up and drop off point is in front of main entrance.
Absences
If a day boy is absent from school his parents should notify the school by telephone between 8.00 am and 8.30 am. On his return a written note should be given to Mr Williams.
A day boy will not be excused from physical activity (including swimming) unless he has a written note from home explaining the reason for his non participation. This should be sent to the Matron.
Prep
Day boys are expected to do their Prep at home each night.
Years 5/6 Half an hour
Years 7/8 One hour (45 minutes summer terms)
If a boy has finished all his allocated work then he should read for the rest of the time. Parents of Year 5/6/7 boys are asked to sign their son' s Prep notebook.
Letter Writing
The boarders have to write a letter home each week during a specified period. The day boys should also write at least one letter per week. Grandparents, other relations or friends all enjoy receiving letters and we feel that writing letters is a good habit to form at a young age.
Please ensure that all boys have letter writing paper, envelopes, stamps and addresses.
Bicycles
Day boys may ride to school but helmets and reflector belts are a compulsory part of the uniform. Bicycles are to be carefully checked and must have lights. Boys must dismount to cross the road at the front gate and will depart via the Johnston Road gate. Bicycles will be kept in the bike shed whilst at school.
Money
Under no circumstances are the day boys to bring money to the School. They may not purchase anything for the boarders, nor may they bring any items from home. Day boys may not post letters for the boarders.
Haircuts
Day boys may have their hair cut by their own hairdresser or are welcome to have it cut when the hairdresser comes to School. (See main directory for standard.)
Day Boys Staying in the Boarding House
Day boys are very welcome to stay in the boarding house overnight, for several days or for longer periods if parents are going away on a trip, for example.
There is a nominal charge of $30 per night for this service and I think that would compare very favourably with the cost of a baby sitter.
