Spiritually
Huntley is affiliated to the Anglican Diocese of Wellington. However, all our
Chapel services are inter-denominational and values based. Boys will experience
what it is to live in a community that celebrates the Christian faith. The boys
are often involved in the services and twice a year each class takes a service.
We recognise the importance of religion as a specific way of boys being able
to exercise their spirituality. Spirituality is an attitude or a way of life
that recognises something we might call spirit.
We strongly believe that values education, religious education and discussing moral issues in the safe environment Huntley provides, is an important aspect in the development of boys. Huntley Values reinforce the beliefs espoused in the philosophy of Huntley, which seek to help the boys to develop and clarify their own principles and beliefs, and to respect and be sensitive to the rights of individuals, families, or groups who hold differing view points to their own. These values include service, honesty, reliability, helpfulness, kindness, respect and support for others, tolerance, fairness, and compassion.
Christian Values
Huntley provides a society where a boy matches himself against, and
works with, his peers in intellectual, cultural, and sporting endeavours. He
looks to develop these skills, which are so important when relating to others.
He discovers the pleasure and variety of social life and awareness of himself
and others through:
- Service
- Consideration
- Kindness
- Honesty
- Loyalty
- Integrity

Chapel

The Chapel, which is still the heart of everyday life, was built in 1908. Boys attend daily services in the Chapel, Chapel Practice and on Sundays. Services alternate between morning and evening services. The school is Anglican by denomination and every year holds a Baptism and Admission to Communion Service for boys who wish to take this step. Three Chapel boys have responsibility for the welfare of the Chapel, cleaning the brass, tidying the pews and generally making sure that the Chapel is cared for.
